This summer I’ve set goals for myself. Among other self-improvement plans, I’d like to become better at making. Not just in the form of hard skills, although I have a list of those as well, but in terms of optimizing my processes and reducing the delay from idea to first draft prototype. I find that I get bogged down in the research and design stages which causes great ideas to sit in boxes for years!
In an effort to increase my creative output, I’ve turned to Adam Savage for inspiration. His one day build series shows that sometimes the most important part of a project is that it’s done! Of course, doing things the right way is important, but simply committing to making something that functions, regardless of form or finish, means that I’ll be able to build on success at a later date rather than feel the dread of picking a project back up that’s been mired down with feature creep and too many options. I’ve also made a promise to myself to document my work more than I have been, which is zero!
Taking a similar approach, I’ll be using this space to write something, anything about what I’ve been doing. By just putting my thoughts onto paper and not concerning myself with the presentation, I hope I’ll be more productive simply by sheer volume. Come back to this spot every so often, I plan to post at least every Wednesday!
